老外說What's the score? 不是在問分數？

Jane在会议室里和同事们开会，正在讨论一个新的专案会议。外籍同事Alice从外面走进来，看到会议开始了，Alice开口说：Sorry I'm late. What's the score with the project presentation?

“什么score? 谁给我们的专案打分数吗？”

Jane非常纳闷，这个Alice一进门就要给大家打分数，会不会太不礼貌了？！

原来What's the score? 不是在问分数！

1.What’s the score?

（Ｘ）你考几分？

（Ｏ）现在进行到哪里了？/情况怎样？

Score这个字，我们最熟悉的用法是「分数、比分」。有名词用法。

．What is the score now? 现在比分多少？（＊用于运动赛事上）

也有动词用法，意思是「得分」：

．She scored 750 on the TOEIC. 她多益考750分。

但Jane和Alice的会议中里，"What's the score?" 是询问专案进展，整体情况的更新。Score原来指竞技比赛中的「比分」，进一步延伸为「局势」或「状况」。

我们用what’s the score，经常是安排被打断、打乱，整体状况需要梳理时，例如：

．What's the score, then - are they coming? 情况怎么样？——他们要来吗？

Score的类似用法还有要了解现在最新的状况，可以用get the score：

．I need to talk to Mark and get the score on what's happening with the project.　我需要和马克谈一谈，了解一下专案的最新情况。

如果真要问别人考试的分数，该怎么问？最常见的说法是：

．"How did you do on the exam?"

一定要追问几分，那就说：

．What score did you get on the exam?

再来看几个score的道地用法。

2.I know the score.

（Ｘ）我知道分数。

（Ｏ）我心里有数。／我知道问题的症结。

Know the score: 意思是「了解实情」或「懂得内幕」。通常用来形容对某件事已经很了解或有经验。“I know the score.” 指「我很清楚情况」或者「我知道事情的真相」。这句话表示说话者对某个情况、局势或事情的内幕已经非常了解，不需要别人再解释或告知。

．He knows the score when it comes to tough negotiations.

3.We finally settle the score.

（Ｘ）我们最后解决了比分。

（Ｏ）我们终于了结了这笔旧账。

“Score”在这里的意思是「旧账」或「恩怨」，指的是过去的争执、不满或未解决的问题。Settle the score”意思是「清算恩怨、报复或了结旧账」。

．He finally settled the score with his rival after years of competition.　 经过多年的竞争，他终于和他的对手了结了恩怨。

．The president used his speech to settle some old scores with his opponents. 总统利用他的演说跟对手算了一笔旧账。
